Excuses

The following are some of the reasons that I have not blogged:

1. The birth of my second child, Gianna Maria, on July 10th.

2. Being busy with the beginning of a new school year.

3. Taking a Kaplan LSAT course...boring.

4. Reading the mystery novels of Dorothy Sayers.

5. Learning Greek.

Congratulations on a new Hanson in the family!!! (though I must admit, I would think that such an event would have been immensely blogworthy...) What does Stella think?

In response to your question: ASU's interesting. Academically, I really like it. I managed to get some really good professors, and my largest class only has 60 people; also, my courses are a lot more challenging than I expected. That's a good thing. The music department has been really, really hard but wonderful, and it gives a "small school" feel to everything. The kids in there are great, because most are nerds, but with social skills. The cello studio had a dumpling-making party at the professor's house and watched DVDs of piano trios and a clip from a movie by the makers of South Park. It was the most fun I've had in quite a while.

My main issues are the heat, the size, and the general student body. Actually, pretty much just the general student body. Honestly, I want to reinstate uniforms. I can't believe how... what's the word for this... skank-tastically everyone dresses here. I look like Pollyanna around campus. And even honors college kids feel free to give out mid-week beer pong invitations. (Don't worry- this intrepid nerd declined.)And, while I'm on a whining role, I'm disappointed at how most honors college kids are still stuck in the middle school mentality of faking dumb and disinterested. They're very bright, but afraid to admit that they care or have passions that lie outside partying or crappy mainstream music or whatever the kids are into these days.

I'm such an old person.

(Though, truthfully, most of the upperclassmen I've met know how to dress and seem funny and interesting.)

But, anyway, I think I'll do pretty well at ASU. I won't be the most popular girl in school, but that's just fine.
