I would rather give full vent to all human loves and disappointments, and take a chance on being corny, than die a smartass.
My wife heard this on today's Writer's Almanac. I think the sentiment is salutary.

Ah, yes. The Writer's Almanac. Great fun. We used to have it on our local NPR classical station, but they've dropped nearly all of their NPR material of late. I don't think I can hear it in the area any longer...
